I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    Hello,

Thanks for your feedback. We are working towards supporting this kind of functionality and much more. We just added the ability to search and have lots of custom dashboards that we want to do as well.

On a side note, this user voice account will be closing due to we are moving everything over to github issues. Could you please relog this UI request here: https://github.com/exceptionless/Exceptionless.UI/issues/new

  2. Allow Group by URL web site name

Hi, when you have many projects against multiple environments it becomes very difficult to see which ones are from Prod and which ones are from DEV, TEST, or LOCAL.

Please introduce Outlook TreeGrid style to be able automatically group by Web Site exception is coming from as well as sub group of TAG.

    Otherwise keep awesome job!

We recommend having one project per environment. We have Exceptionless (DEV) and Exceptionless projects. We point staging and dev to Exceptionless (DEV) via an api key. This is the recommended approach. We are looking ways to better organize and display projects and organizations. If you have any feedback it would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Move (or add) the project selection dropdown to the top of the navigation menu

Currently, the dropdown list to select a project is only displayed at the top of a project's dashboard. This means that if I'm looking at a specific error in a project, and I want to switch to a different project, I first need to select the "dashboard" for the current project, then select from the project dropdown that is only shown on a project's dashboard.

Would you please consider either moving this selection dropdown (or adding an additional dropdown) to the top of the left-side navigation menu (above the "Dashboard" link and below the username/edit-profile block? This way, the project-selection…

We show it everywhere it makes contextual sense. Like we show it on the new / frequent / dashboard and stack pages. We don’t show it on error occurrence page but it could be argued that it should be there. You can switch the project on any page (freq/new) to switch to that specific project.

If we moved this there then what would you do with the date range filter?

  5. Reports

    Hi,

Need to have an ability to provide an easy report on errors fixed.
Current summary report is a step in right direction, but can't be sent to client. Ideally it should have:
    - Visual graph similar to dashboard showing:
    - New Exceptions received this weeks
    - Total Exceptions receivedthis week
    - Total unsolved exceptions
    - Exception fixes this week
    - Total fixed exception
    - Retain error stats "forever" to provide historical report
    - Ability to generate this report for specific period via UI

    Thanks

Do you think this would be project level for creating a report? How do you see yourself creating the report and specifying the criteria for date ranges?

We are doing a major api refactor in the pcl branch right now that is will allow us to implement search and do many more things like analytics / logging etc.

  6. Add a horizontal scale or indicator to the history chart on the dashboard

The Exception History chart could use a horizontal scale or some sort of indication of the time/date range of the horizontal axis.

By default the chart scale will be from the First occurrence to the current time as shown above in the boxes. We want to add a bar below that allows you to show events like a new version was released etc.. How do you think this should be changed? Do you have any examples?

  7. Timeline graph click through

When viewing timeline graph I need to be able to click on that a day and filter the dashboard to chow exceptions for this day only.

  8. Log any Session variables and values from a page that raises an exception

Currently, any existing form values and cookie values are logged for an exception. It would be helpful if Session variable values could also be logged.

(I understand that Session variables are not necessarily good practice, but we still have a few legacy Session variables in our applications that we have not yet removed in refactoring or re-working.)

  9. Auto expand 'System.Reflection.ReflectionTypeLoadException'

When you catch 'System.Reflection.TypeLoadException', the serialized information is not very useful and says "Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information."

It would be nice to have the "LoaderExceptions" property analyzed and sent as extended data with the exception so it would display in the report.

  11. Provide an option for combined summary emails

I now have a few projects in Exceptionless, and I am receiving daily summary emails from each project.

I previously entered a suggestion about adding a little more information to the daily summary emails, but now I have a couple of other concerns:
    - the daily summary emails arrive at very different times for each project (I receive one at about 1am, a different project late morning, and another one early in the afternoon)
    - as I continue to migrate more projects to Exceptionless, the number of daily summary emails will increase potentially to the point of becoming very cumbersome.

We always try to send the email after 8-9am in your local time every morning. This is placed in a queue and sent whenever the system has time.

It would be nice to be able to specify a general time of day to send reports. Would you mind submitting a pull request for this functionality? One would need to create a new setting on the project and update the Daily Notification job (https://github.com/exceptionless/Exceptionless/blob/master/Source/Core/Jobs/DailyNotificationJob.cs).

I really do like the idea of having a organization summary. How do you think this would work? Do you think this should just be the default email that is sent? What if you don’t care about a project?

  12. Display type of outer exception

Currently the type of an exception is displayed as the "inner exception" of the exception. However, this type often is not as informative of the error and error-context as the actual exception. (e.g. the type of the NpgsqlException is always System.Exception.

Can this be changed to always displaying the type of the outer exception?

  13. Add more information to the no-errors daily summary email

If there have been no recent errors, the daily summary email for a project doesn't state much more than "The project was exceptionless!".

It would be helpful if this "no-errors" email included a little more information, such as perhaps the most recent error and how many days ago it was; or the counts of exceptions for the past 30 days.

I’ll bring this up with the team and see what we can do. I do see us changing the name of the emails to be smarter and maybe showing the last two errors. However, if you get into deep analytics it could tax the system just for sending out a daily summary..

  14. Allow for defaults for notifications options

When I set up a new project, I would like to be able to set default notification options for all users that I then add to the project.

  15. Provide ability to surface notifications of fixes on client

Right now you can mark an error as fixed. It would be nice to see if we can surface that on the client (through whatever notification the client would choose). For example I mark an exception as fixed and the next time the client visits my site/runs my app/etc. a notification comes up saying "XYZ was fixed" (or something to that effect). Exceptions probably shouldn't be something you notify someone but if the system starts letting us log non-exceptions this might be useful to some?

I’m adding this to the backlog as a feature we may add in the future. It’s currently not on our road map. We are currently working hard to make the client very generic so we can make many more native clients as well as add the ability to search.

One thing you may want to integrate with is our web hooks, in which you could get the error object and end user info when an error is mark as fixed and then contact them via your website / application.

  16. Send additional detail in email notifications

The email notification sends a very brief summary of the exception (type, message, and URL). I then need to click the link in the email to view the error details at the web site.

It would be helpful to also receive the exception stack trace in the email; that would allow me, in most cases, to immediately start investigating the error in the source code.

You could make this an option in notification settings if you don't want to send the stack trace to all users.

  17. Provide the ability for a User in the Organization to take ownership of an exception

In our organization, many of us are watching exceptionless closely (we even have audio notifications in our development room). So, we frequently jump on investigation of issues reported by exceptionless. Unfortunately, a side-effect is that we have more than one person looking at (and fixing) the same issue. Conversely, we have had times when a recurring issue is ignored.

It would be great to have a way to "take ownership" (or assign ownership?) of an exception to show that it's being worked.

This is something we are considering adding in a future release. We’d recommend using an issue tracker along with the promote to external feature on the stack page. We have some preconfigured hooks on zapier.com for creating new cards on trello and adding a reference link / mark as fixed when a card is moved to done.

  19. Show Fixed Indicator in Lists

When showing a list of stacks/issues, I would like to see an indicator of whether or not the issue has been marked as fixed so I don't have to dig into each issue to view it. Alternatively you could have a view option to filter out fixed items.

    Thank you,
    Chris

  20. Make the show/hide buttons on top work

Currently the show/hide buttons up top don't seem to function in a way that makes any sense. I would expect only checking 'Show Fixed Errors' would only show fixed errors, instead of all errors and fixed errors and so on.
